Bill Nye reflects on receiving Hollywood Walk of Fame star in moving post

Bill Nye is still on cloud nine after receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The science educator, engineer, comedian, television presenter and inventor was celebrated Monday in a special ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard.

In an Instagram post Tuesday, Nye reflected on the honor and his career in science, as well as the arts.

"What an honor to receive a Star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame," he wrote in the caption. "Recognition by one's peers always means a great deal, but to have spent yesterday with many people who have influenced my career, contributed to my work, encouraged me, and supported me through all my ideas, was extraordinary."

He continued, "I love science. I love comedy. I love television, which was invented with science. Science is the best idea humans have ever had. I became a mechanical engineer because of it, and then entered the world of comedy too, which led me to my show that gave me the opportunity to teach so many people about the life changing world of science."

Nye famously hosted the educational series "Bill Nye the Science Guy," which aired from 1993 to 1999.

Nye wrote that his life's work had been "a celebration of the passion, beauty, and joy of science - coupled with the Art of television and the moving image."

"It's been the experience of a lifetime spreading the lessons of science to people around the world and I know we all have the power to change the world because of it," he wrote.

Nye ended his message by thanking his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who has supported him.

"I couldn't have done it without you," he added.

Speakers at Nye's Walk of Fame ceremony on Monday included motivational speaker Ross Shafer, 2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics and comedian Joel McHale.
