Demi Lovato is entering a new era.
The singer recently released her ninth studio album, "It's Not That Deep," which she says reflects how her life is currently.
"With this album, I wanted it to be more celebratory," she told "Nightline." "I wanted people to have fun listening to it because I'm in a place in my life today where I'm having fun."
The new album has 11 new songs including her single "Fast," and the songs "Here All Night," "Frequency" and more.
Lovato credits some of her new music to her husband, Jordan Lutes. The duo tied the knot in May.
"Falling in love with him changed my sound," she said. "I was like I'm gonna go make another rock album and as I was making it I was (like) wait, I'm really happy."
She added, "And I tried on a couple different genres of music that were inspiring me at the time and what really landed for me was this pop music and dance vibe."
Previously, Lovato's music tended to mirror the pain she was going through at the time.
In 2018, she overdosed after taking drugs laced with fentanyl. After the incident, she addressed her struggles head on and has been open about her battles with addiction and recovery.
She further opened up about her battles with addiction in the 2021 documentary "Dancing with the Devil." In the docuseries, she said that the overdose caused three strokes, a heart attack and temporary blindness
"I've always been so vulnerable with my fans opening up in deeply personal songs about my past, things that I've been through," Lovato said.
She added, "I've always made music that's inspiring me at the moment. It was not only reflective of where I'm at you know, emotionally, but it's where I'm at creatively too."
The "Heart Attack" singer said she channeled some of the emotion of some of the songs on the album by stepping into character.
"'Here All Night' is about a breakup that I didn't go through," she said about one of the songs. "I thought, well, what if I just make it up? And it was fun and creatively freeing to write from a different place."
"I'm not writing from deeply emotional places right now, because I'm not living in the past anymore," she said. "Because there are times in my life where I've taken myself too seriously as an artist and put too much pressure on myself to have a certain amount of success. Sometimes it's just a matter of reminding yourself… it's really not that deep."
In addition to her new music, Lovato is executive producing "Camp Rock 3." The news was announced in September.
She said that working on the film as a producer has been "really awesome" for her.
As for an on-screen appearance, she said fans will just have to wait and see.
Lovato recently reunited with her "Camp Rock" co-stars, the Jonas Brothers, at their tour stop in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
She said the experience was "really fun" and added that seeing the joy on her fans' faces "was so rewarding."
Following her new album, the next thing on her list is going on tour. She recently performed a the Hollywood Palladium for a sold out one-night-only tour teaser and announced earlier this week that she's hitting the road again.
She told "Nightline" that her show will include "more dancing than I've done in past tours."
"They're dance tracks, you have to dance," she said. "And I want to dance."
She added, "I just want people to have fun. Don't take yourself too seriously. One day you're gonna wake up and you're going to be like, 'I could have had more fun, right' Life is about enjoying the moment."
