McDonald's McNugget Caviar kits sell out instantly, website crashes

WATCH: McDonald's announces return of extra value menus

McDonald's website crashed temporarily on Tuesday after the fast food giant released its highly anticipated McNugget Caviar kits, which sold out instantly.

The kits launched at 11 a.m. ET on Feb. 10, and minutes ahead of the drop, many fans reported issues with the website, with some saying they were unable to access the page entirely.

The website appeared to be back up a few minutes later, with a message noting the kits had already sold out.

"Unfortunately, our McNugget Caviar was everyone's Valentine this year, and has flown off the shelves," the message read, noting that fans could still "elevate your McNuggets with our sweet and spicy Hot Honey sauce for a limited time."

McDonald's first announced the McNugget Caviar kits earlier in February, bringing a touch of elegance to one of its bestselling items ahead of Valentine's Day.

The kits were the product of a limited-time partnership with Paramount Caviar to bring McDonald's fans a premium product for free, and were exclusively made available online.

"To be known is to be loved, and we know our fans love pairing our crispy Chicken McNuggets with their favorite caviar," the company said in a press release at the time. "Inspired by this perfect match, we're dropping our first-ever McNugget Caviar kits featuring premium Baerii Sturgeon caviar on Feb. 10, exclusively available online. After all, nothing says 'ILY' quite like a limited drop from McDonald's just in time for your Valentine's Day plans."

It's the latest version of the popular high-low pairing trend, which first took over social media feeds with Simon Kim's Golden Nugget at COQODAQ, where a crispy, golden chicken nugget gets topped with savory pearls of caviar.

What's in the McNugget Caviar kit?

McDonald's Caviar kits include Paramount Caviar's Baerii Sturgeon Caviar.

Each kit includes a 1-ounce tin of McNugget Caviar, a $25 Arch Card for Chicken McNuggets, crème fraîche and a Mother of Pearl caviar spoon for serving.

"What makes this pairing so iconic? The crispy, golden goodness of our signature McNuggets and the salty, savory, black pearls of Paramount's Baerii Sturgeon caviar make for a true match made in heaven for the special occasions in life," McDonald's said in its earlier press release.

How to get a McNugget Caviar kit

A limited supply of McDonald's McNugget Caviar kits were made available Tuesday, meaning anyone who didn't manage to snag one when they dropped at 11 a.m. ET is likely out of luck.

Kits are not available for purchase in-store.

McDonald's advised followers in its earlier press release to "keep an eye out on social [media] for more ways to celebrate the season of love with the Golden Arches."
