LEGO launches SMART Play System, a new screen-free interactive building experience

WATCH: New LEGO SMART Play System unveiled

LEGO is bringing play into a new dimension with the launch of its LEGO SMART Play system, which officially debuted on March 1.

Designed to blend classic building with interactive technology, SMART Play introduces responsive LEGO bricks that react to how kids move, build, twist and play, all without the need for screens, apps or devices.

The system uses SMART Bricks, SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures that work together to activate builds during playtime. As kids change their creations or storylines, the sets respond in real time, creating endlessly evolving adventures and encouraging imaginative, hands-on play.

Starter All-in-One SMART Play sets include everything needed to begin, while compatible expansion sets allow kids to grow their worlds over time.

According to the website, LEGO says the innovation represents one of its biggest breakthroughs since the introduction of the minifigure, combining creativity, storytelling and STEM-style exploration in a completely screen-free format.

For parents looking to balance technology with open-ended play, SMART Play offers a modern upgrade to traditional building toys, keeping kids engaged while still prioritizing imagination.
